The Spalding Program has a motivating power.  It fully engages the natural learning dispositions of the mind.  A child’s brain is not prewired for reading, the brain is prewired for speech.  Left to their own inductive powers of reason, the vast majority of children will not discover how the written language works and when children discover that they do not understand how it works, they often engage in the self-blame game.
